Under the direction of the Pharmacy Director, works to achieve the goals of the department, hospital, and Foundation in accordance with policy, standard practices of the profession, and State and Federal law.
Responsibilities:
- Compounds medications, using standard formulas and processes, such as weighing, measuring, and mixing ingredients.
- Reviews prescriptions issued by physician, or other authorized prescriber to assure accuracy and determine formulas and ingredients needed.
- Directs pharmacy technicians engaged in mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals, and verifies pharmaceuticals before dispensing and distribution.
- May assay medications to determine identity, purity, and strength.
- Enters data, such as patient name, prescribed medication and cost, to maintain pharmacy files, charge system, and inventory.
- Answers questions and provides information to pharmacy customers on drug interactions, side effects, dosage and storage of pharmaceuticals.
- Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs.
- May instruct interns and other medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy and pharmaceutical information.
- Will be scheduled or required to work different shifts including the “Remote Access Night Shift”.
Education Qualifications:
- Bachelor Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy required.
- Licensed in the state of Connecticut or eligible for reciprocity (with licensure received within 90 days of hire or less) required.
Experience Qualifications:
- Previous hospital experience preferred.
